About the Arts Commission Public Art Public Galleries Education Grants Arts in Santa Barbara

 

Special Projects:
Grants Programs: For the 21st year The Arts Commission continues to re-grant over $425,000 in funds from the City of Santa Barbara to city-based cultural arts programs in three categories: Organizational Development, Community Arts, and Community Events & Festivals.

Partner with City TV:
Commission staff has worked with City TV staff to include segments on "Inside Santa Barbara" focusing on Santa Barbara public art, and arts events and issues.

Santa Barbara Community Arts Workshop (C.A.W.): An arts center is being developed on the eastside of Santa Barbara. This facility is being developed in conjunction with a nonprofit organization and will be used for rehearsal space, artist-in-residence workspace, festival and theatrical construction space and arts education. The City's Redevelopment Agency has pledged up to $1,000,000 for the C.A.W. and will lease the C.E.C. re-cycling center for this purpose.

Cultural Arts District Plan: The Arts Advisory Committee continues to partner with the Downtown Organization and the City of Santa Barbara Redevelopment Agency to implement the programming element of the Historic Arts District Plan.


Cultural Tourism: The Arts Commission continues its partnership with the Santa Barbara Conference and Visitors Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce, Visitors Bureaus throughout the County, the Santa Barbara Performing Arts League, and Santa Barbara Visual Arts to promote Santa Barbara County as a cultural destination.


Administrative Services:
The Arts Commission processes over 60 contracts each year with area artists and art organizations to implement special projects and programs.

Arts Commission staff are responsible for 4 monthly meetings, agendas and minutes. Commission staff sit on over a dozen non profit boards, committees and task forces.

Commission staff provides technical assistance to non profits arts groups, local government and the general public on an ongoing daily basis.
