ENTER THE STATE OF THE ART GALLERY 2008 EXHIBITION

            CALL FOR ENTRIES

 

The Santa Barbara County Arts Commission announces a Call for Entries for the City of Santa Barbara’s State of the Art Gallery 2008 Exhibition.  The State of the Art Gallery 2008 Exhibition, now in its 5th year is a unique collaboration between the City and County of Santa Barbara and the Downtown Organization. In the past, outdoor sculpture exhibitions on State Street have featured such artists as Liz Amidon, Ken Bortolazzo, Deborah Butterfield, Jim Dine, Donald Davis, Jeff Elings, Ed Inks, Rafael Perea de la Cabada, James Surls, and Luis Jimenez. This project is a unique collaboration between the City and County of Santa Barbara and the Downtown Organization, with major funding from the City of Santa Barbara Redevelopment Agency, and additional funding from Santa Barbara Beautiful, Inc.

 

Dean Anes, the Director of Acme Gallery in Los Angeles is the 2008 State of the Art Gallery 2008 Exhibition Curator. We invite regional Tri-County artists or creative teams to submit their sculptural works for consideration for the State of the Art Gallery  2008 exhibition and the use of recycled material is encouraged but not required. Eight to ten sculptural sites are available on State Street in the Downtown Cultural Arts District; and the honorarium for each artist site is $1500. We invite all artists, individuals as well as creative teams, to apply, who reside within Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo Counties. April 10, 2008, 4:30pm is the deadline for all artist applicants.

 

Please include:

1. A disk with 5 JPEG 300 d.p.i. images with corresponding list with all image information: size, medium, title.  
2. Current resume
3. A sculpture proposal on 8 ½” x 11” white paper, drawn by hand or with computer graphics. An additional page may be used to describe the sculpture, approximate size, and materials to be used.
4. SASE only if you wish to have your materials returned.

The opening reception for State of the Art Gallery 2006 Exhibition is Saturday, August 9, 2008. This exhibition is a direct result of the Santa Barbara community’s vision and commitment to placing public art in the heart of the Cultural Arts District. The event will coordinate with Off Axis, a month-long celebration of contemporary art in Santa Barbara with an event on Friday, October 3th, Check the web site for further information, as we time gets closer to the event.
