Mercedes Eichholz, Art Volunteer and Philanthropist,
Awarded a Resolution from the County
At a recent County Board Meeting, on March 2, 2010, Mercedes Eichholz was honored for her commitment and dedicated service to the County Arts Commission and the Santa Barbara Arts Community. Salud Carbahal, Commissioner for the 1st District, Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors, presented Ms. Eichholz with a resolution for her dedication spanning nearly three decades of volunteer service to the arts community and providing philanthropic support to regional nonprofits and arts organizations since moving to Santa Barbara County in 1980. Eichholz has dedicated herself to the arts serving as 1st District Commissioner for nearly two decades acting as co-chair with Natalie Meyerson in the 1990s; on the Santa Barbara Museum of Art Board since 1986, and as Museum Board Chair from 2001-2003; as a Council Member of the Music Academy of the West since 1998, and has supported Endowed Chairs for Piano and Viola for the Santa Barbara Symphony.
Mercedes has been an avid collector of art since her marriage to collector Robert B. Eichholz. Since his death in 1983 Mercedes has been supporting regional artists and organizations and gifting portions of her collection to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and to the County Arts Commission as she continues to collect; and continues to serve on the County Art in Public Places Committee.
